The Redwood Coast of southern Mendocino County and northern Sonoma County (SEE MAP) is a place of exquisite beauty and natural solitude. Green forests of pine, fir and redwood, revealed by the silent ebb and flow of coastal fog, extend down to the vast Pacific Ocean. Wild rhododendrons, azaleas and iris surprise and delight the observer with their colorful displays. Rocky bluffs give way to the ocean's powerful surf. Spectacular vistas of wind-swept meadows and tree-covered ridges greet the eye at every turn. |

This land contains some of the rarest and most varied habitats found on earth. It is part of the California Floristic Province, named by scientists as one of earth's 25 conservation "hot spots." This designation is due to the rich diversity of species and habitat and the multitude of environmental threats such as harmful water projects, abusive recreational activities, biological invasions, habitat conversions, and unsustainable natural resource harvests. |
